i (💜) Carly

Carly Rae Jepsen has produced so many good songs and yet I don't think enough of ya'll appreciate her to the extent she deserves. If your Carly experience begins and ends with "Call Me Maybe", this is for you.

Kiss

We will start out with skipping 2008's Tug of War album entirely because its way too 2008 and go straight to Kiss from 2012. We are starting to build the foundation here and can grab "Tiny Little Bows", "Call Me Maybe", "Turn Me Up", "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" and then head over to 2015 when it gets really good.

Emotion

Emotion sounds like what Carly was trying to make before but now she found it. Starting out with the memed "Run Away With Me", moving to big hair 80s drums on "I Really Like You" and then to my favorite "Warm Blood", every track on this album could be a hit on its own. In fact, there were so many good songs she had to release a B side album.

2016's "Emotion Side B" opens with the 80s/90s pop masterpiece "First Time" and doesn't disappoint. My other favorites from this album are "Higher" and "Body Language".

Singles

"Cut to the Feeling" is a single that I didn't know about until this year despite being from 2017. "OMG" with Gryffin is another single from 2019 not to miss.

Dedicated

Next up, she dials back the driving synth pop for a more polished, classier vibe on 2019's "Dedicated". This album opens with the silky smooth "Julien" before bringing the some of the synth pop vibes back in a more daft punk way. Its really hard for me to pick only one favorite on this album, but I'll just say its "I'll Be Your Girl" to keep the article moving along.

Yup, its another B side album a year later with "Dedicated Side B". This one does actually seem like a B side album though. Nothing is bad, but nothing really stands out. Its a good background-while-studying type of album. "Solo" is the one song that stood out to me and we will take that one with us for the playlist.

The Loneliest Time

"The Loneliest Time" appears two years later and continues successfully figuring out how to mix smoother funky vibes with punchy synth pop and sprinkles in a little island vibes as well. I like "Surrender My Heart", "Joshua Tree", Talking to Yourself", "Sideways", and "Bends" the most from this album.

The Loveliest Time

Only a year later, "The Loveliest Time" comes out and I am not really in to much on this one besides "Kamikaze" and "After Last Night". Right after I started this post, she released two songs from the upcoming album and I've included "On Wires" which is a cool blend of all her past styles.

We Did It Girl!

While I definitely preferred her earlier albums, this woman has created a staggering amount of good music that I just don't think people have paid enough attention to. Hopefully this playlist will introduce you to some new-to-you songs from our Canadian Pop Queen. 💜
