After I started this article last week, they released a full album so the timing couldn't be better. My intro to them was "What Do You Do" and "I Put My Makeup On" and, between their over-the-top girly y2k aesthetic and the music, I was hooked.

The new album is solid and includes songs from the previous EP. I really like the line from "Chip Chop" that goes "I was never meant to see my body from the left, from the right, fuck my life".

Sheer Mag

Put away the pink vinyl skirt and put on your black leather jacket for the rest of the article. I listened to Sheer Mag almost daily in 2017 with "Expect the Bayonette", "Need to Feel Your Love" and "Nobody's Baby" and then was reminded they exist again a couple years ago when my partner and I saw them with Amyl & The Sniffers.

They have accomplished a perfect vintage rock vibe without being cheesy or dated. The deep, punchy bass lines coupled with the piercing vocals and gorgeous guitars makes them one of the very few bands I listen to in this genre.

Crawlers

Crawlers are another band where I found two songs and ran with it for a year or so. I still haven't listened to all their songs, but I've included the ones I first listened to ("Kiss Me" and "Kills Me To Be Kind") as well as a few others I like from them.

They vary from an indie dance rock vibe to a grungier, heavier style like the next band on the list, but my favorite song is still "Kiss Me" so far.

The Velveteers

I saw two heart shaped kick drums on TikTok and stopped to listen to "All These Little Things" from their latest album. There was/is a band called "The Sword" I was into for a brief period of time that has a similar vibe (but with men) so I was very happy to find these ladies.

My impression of the overall sound is a witch that can kill you with a couple words but uses a sword just for fun. The opening of "All These Little Things" is probably one of the best things I've ever heard.

1:57-2:30 of "Dark Horse" makes me want to start summoning things. This is definitely a band I would love to hear in person at full volume.

We Did It GRRRL!

All the sickeningly sweet girlypop goodness needs some contrast and this should be a good palate cleanser before the next serving of my usual musical tastes. If you don't have a good stereo, headphones, or car stereo, go find a friend that does and play this at full volume. 💜
